STORE, HANDLE AND TRANSPORT EXPLOSIVES

This Nationally Recognised Training short course will provide the skills and knowledge required to store, handle and transport explosives in the Mining, Drill and Civil Infrastructure sector.

Designed for any person working in and around explosives in any capacity including magazine keepers, site supervisors, and emergency response teams etc.

Course Description

This Unit includes planning and preparing for storage, handling and transport of explosives, accessing and managing explosives storage, preparing to transport explosives and transporting explosives.

To obtain a Statement of Attainment, trainees must successfully complete all three components in this course:

  1. Theory 
  2. Operational Engagement & Experience evidence submission 
  3. Onsite Observational Assessment Conducted by BMI Trainers and/or Site Appointed personnel to evaluate practical application skills.
Duration: Total 20hours (nominal)
  • Course access to complete 12 months from enrolment date

  • Classroom – 1 day
    – Private Group
    – Public Program [Refer to Training Schedule for course dates]
  • Online training is available for all units of competency.  This self-paced training is web based and may be completed over an extended period.  Only available for Sites who have partnered with BMI to support and mentor trainee(s).

Entry Requirements

  • Minimum age of 18
  • Possession of a Dangerous Goods Security Card or equivalent (TAS Trainees require WST Letter of Approval)
  • Ability to provide evidence of participation in shotfiring teams and blasts
  • Basic understanding of mining operations and explosives obtained through a site induction
  • Proficiency in English (speaking, reading, and comprehension)
  • Fundamental mathematical knowledge including basic area, volume calculations, percentages, and equation transposition
  • Basic computer literacy.

Equipment Requirements

  • Computer or iPad with a camera and an internet connection.
  • Mobile phone (IOS or Android) running the SiteDocs APP.
  • Email Address
  • USI for Australian Residents
  • Access to a Category 2 Vehicle and a Magazine to conduct Audits
